STORY OF UMAR & UWAIS AL KARANI

You all know who is

Omar ibn Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him)? yes, He is a sahabi and the second close companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him); and you know who is Uwais Al Qarani? yes, He is a tabi'i so he never met the Prophet;

An expressive picture of the story of Owais Al-Qarni
but that seems strange that the Prophet ask for forgiveness from Owais al-Qarni

 the Prophet ( صلى الله عليه و سلم) told  ibn Al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه ) :

'The best of the tabiin (followers) is a man called Uwais, and he has a mother and he had whiteness (vitiligo ), so he prayed to God, So he took it away from him except for the location of the dirham (cash currency) in his navel: when he comes to you, ask him to make Duaa for you (يستغفر لك ).

what makes  Uwais Al Qarani so distinguished and had a great status?

  • he was the only son, his father had passed away, so he"s taking care of his mother in a very dutiful manner. And he asks and begs permission to go to Medina to meet the Prophet ( محمد صلى الله عليه و سلم ),
  • So his mother grudgingly allows him to go, but she says:'look, you know that I need you, therefore I only give you, basically a day in  Medina; as soon you get there, you meet  the Prophet, you come back ;
  • It is said that Uwais traveled from yemem all the way to medina, and when he got there, lo and behold the prophet (صلى الله عبيه وسلم) was away on an expedition and wasn't in Madina. So now he's stuck between two options: the first is to wait a week or two
  • the prophet Mohammed (صلى الله عليه وسلم )  wouldn't be gone for more than a week or two, and wait for the prophet(صلى الله عليه وسلم ) to return ;
What did he choose to do?

 we can guess he chooses to obey his mother. listening to your mother is wajib(compulsory), so Uwais al qarani stay a day, as much as his mother had allowed him, and then he made his mount and he rolled all the way back to Yemen Uwais gave up that status (sahabi) in order to please his mother.

Now we know...

  1. It is not a surprise, therefore, that the prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said what he said to Umar
  2. This man used to treat his mother with righteousness, with birr; and Subhanallah this really shows us, want our Dua's to be accepted let us treat our parents with that at dignity and respect that they deserve, We want Allah to bless us?
  3. Jibreel comes down to inform our prophet( محمد صلى الله عليه و سلم) of this good man, whose only good that we know of was Barran (a righteous person), he was somebody who would treat his mother with the type of birr.
  4. At the end that is why the prophet never ceased to remind us and advise us to take our parents with the utmost gentleness.
